The Winchester Arcana

I was curious...I recently discovered this amazing project and I am so in love with everything that you guys have done, and I wanted to contribute but I'm not sure that my visual art is up to par. However, I do have several years worth of experience with tarot cards and I do quite enjoy writing. Would anyone be interested in me potentially doing a write up specific to each of the cards, for reference if anyone ends up using them?

Has anyone actually tried Reading with our Tarot? How did it go? Did they have a good feel about them? Are there any you think need more work on a metaphysical level? Just curious. I'm thinking about printing them out to use, but I'm not actually familiar with this system.

This comm has gotten quiet lately, and that's ok, but it's not dead yet, so I just wanted to check in with everyone to see how you're all doing. Is anyone working on new cards? I'm not. I think I've completed all the ones I'm going to.

I did want to announce, though, that I will be going to the SPN con in August in Boston. I don't know if it'll be possible to do, but I would love to take along some copies of a few of the cards that were created through this project featuring the actors who will be there that weekend. So far, that would be Jared, Misha, Richard, Chad, Brock, Matt, Amy, Alona and Traci. Since I didn't create cards for all of them, I was wondering if I may get permission from those of you who did. For instance, Traci has already seen her Moon card and she loved it, but I would like to have her sign a larger copy of it for me. I would like to do the same for the other actors we have cards for. I think we have at least one card for all of them, except for Chad. Did we use him on a card for Ash? (I don't have my notes handy to check on that myself.)

Even if this isn't possible, I still wanted to thank everyone, once again, for all your hard work on this project. It was a true labor of love. *hugs you all*

Note: Dean in Hell. I really wanted to draw something gore as Hell was described in the show by Meg as "a prison, made of bone and flesh and blood and fear". I know, I know : poor Dean! But as he was tortured and practically eaten alive by demons on a regular basis I guess I had no other choice than going for an art that would make you go all "EWWWwwwwwWw!!!" in front of the screen.

Card Name: The Four of Pentacles

Card Meaning: A man holds tight to his four pentacles in this card. And in this case, the refusal to budge may be damaging. This is the miser card. Remember how the Querent got more work, money, luck, health in the last card, the Three of Pentacles? Well, he's holding on tight to what he's got, not sharing it with anyone, not investing it in the future, just holding onto it, trying to keep it still and unchanging. When this card appears it tells the Querent that they're in a position of status, health, money, even comfort. Solid, and unchanging. But the Querent is too afraid of losing all this.
The card reminds them to throw their bread upon the waters. Share the wealth; be generous with good luck and good fortune. A miser lives always in fear, never able to take delight in what they have, or create from it those things worth having like friends, family, a good name. Relax a little, be less worried about loss of what you have - it's not going anywhere. Focus, instead, on how to make the best of what you've got while you're around to enjoy it.

Notes: I chose Crowley mainly because as the crossroad kings, he is never one to give up what he has, especially those souls since they hold so much weight in hell. He's a stingy guy, purely business and always trying to get ahead and do what's best for him. But as he's learned recently, sometimes you need to give up some things in order to survive and that's that.

Card name: The High Priestess

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know in order to make a decision about a problem or a job, an investment, love, career, family, etc.

And, finally, there is, behind her throne, the curtain that leads to the deepest, most esoteric and secret knowledge; the pomegranates that decorate it remind us of Persephone, who was taken down into the land of the dead, ate its fruit, and became the only goddess allowed to travel to and from that strange land. This indicates that when you get the High Priestess, you're going to be learning some very odd things. Very odd.

So I managed to incorporate the moons (albeit the wrong way round) and the pomegranate is there on the table along with the book symbolising her arcane knowledge.
Now all I want to see is an episode featuring Missouri and a wooden spoon and I will be a very happy camper!

The six of Wands : The prophet Chuck

My last (?) card for the spn_tarot  project. The prophet Chuck as the 6 of Wands.
I drew Chuck disappearing bit by bit in a fire (I think it's classier that the way he vanished in the show, boom! a little cloud of smoke and he's gone) as if he had finished his job on this planet. I know that Carver Edlund never published "Swan Song" and that, consequently, no promotional poster whatsoever was printed but the words "Swan Song" was the best way to show it was the end of his mission and of the Winchesters' Gospel. I don't know if my rambling is very clear...^^;;

This has been active for a while now but we wanted to wait till Season 6 to announce it.

dauntdraws has created a beautiful website to display all of the cards created for this project. (Thanks so much hunny!) It really is a wonderful way to get an overview of the incredible variety of creative work you have all come up with. You can even search by artist, card or character!

If your card is not featured please let us know and we will make sure it gets added. There has been a lot of hard work to make it as up to date as possible but there may have been a few cards that have slipped through the cracks.

My computer just ate the meaning of the card, that's no joke, so, let's see if I can explain it without help: The card is about building a foundation, about taking a moment to smell the roses, admiring the built foundation, looking ahead to a (maybe) bright future ... now the fan!Sam&Dean's aka Demian and Barnes' foundation is the real live of Sam&Dean, though they both are oblivious to the reality of it, even when confronted with it, Sam&Dean's life, lives is full of blood and tragedy, for Demian and Barnes it's a wild, romantic, victorian novel, I'm sure when they think of Sam&Dean they picture them standing in an open, foggy field with flying flannel shirts exposing their muscled chests ... Demian and Barnes live in a save bubble, sort of, not realizing the dangers around them, and that's good for them, it allows them a to have a bright future to look forward to ...

Some technical (or is it artistical?) bits ... Demian and Barnes, and the fake! hook man are done digitally, for the half-heart around D&B and the riffle I used shapes (yeah, lazy me stroke once again), the twigs in the background are black fineliner on paper and for the rest I used different photographs ...

So, we are four episodes through Season 6 and how's everyone finding it so far?

Obviously, with the introduction of new characters/monsters and the continuing revelations about established characters, we figured that the tarot card muse is probably waking up right about now for some of you. So, now that we have had a small break, we thought it was time to update you on how this community will carry forward.

As mentioned before, the response to this project has been overwhelming. I know I've said it before but you guys rock!
All of the moderators have had a blast working on this project and none of us want to see it end now just because we have completed our original aim.

That said, we also feel that, in the long term, we cannot commit the amount of time that it has taken to organize 78+ prompts/artists for an entire deck.

So, what we have decided is that each week we will update the comm with possible characters/situations that you guys may be interested in interpreting as a card. We won't issue strict card prompts but are more than willing to provide suggestions if you perhaps don't have a strong understanding of tarot card meanings.

We will also welcome any other ideas you have for cards. If you have a really strong idea for a Dean card for example, but were unable to work on it due to there being no Dean prompts avalible, well, heres your chance! Just contact one of the moderators and we will work something out with you!

We also welcome any other tarot inspired work you may do that is seperate from this project. Please feel free to share it with others here.

We will also be able to complete cards as before (with colour co-ordinated borders and scrolls)for you, but these will be completed as and when the moderators are able to, so please be aware that it may not be done as quickly as before.

Because Pestilence is awesome and I though he would fit with this card. He is trying so hard to create the croatoan virus he only see's his failed attempts not the fact that he still has his cup of blood to communicate with those that follow him and a completed virus just waiting to unleashed on humanity. I love the iconography for Supernatural and Pestilence is a characters with some great iconography.

I wanted to add my thanks to what the other mods have said. When this project started several months ago, I figured we'd be lucky to get half a deck done, and here we are, with same as two full decks, with the strong possibility of more to come. I have had a wonderful time working with all of you, fellow mods and artists alike. This has been challenging, but very rewarding as well, and I have made some good friends through it too. I'm in for the long haul, gang. Maybe not to the extent I have been, but this group is too amazing to leave, so...whatever happens next, I'll be here, and I hope ya'll will be here too.
